Capnography and "Multi-Lead Medics" Presentation
On August 11 and 12, 2006, Allied EMS Systems, Inc. sponsored workshops on Capnography and 12-Lead EKG Interpretation, offered by Bob Page, AAS, NREMT-P, CCEMT-P, I/C at Boyne Highlands Resort for approximately 45 area paramedics, EMTs, and nurses.
On Friday night, Page introduced his audience to the relatively new technology of measuring patients’ exhaled carbon dioxide as a means of determining respiratory difficulty and/or cardiac compromise.
In an all day Saturday workshop, Page presented his trademarked “Multi-Lead Medics” workshop, designed to de-mystify the process of 12-Lead EKG interpretation and introduce attendees to the critical importance of using more than the usual lead II EKG interpretation to determine axis deviation, the presence of bundle branch blocks, and to determine more precisely the location of acute myocardial infarctions. Information gained from interpretation of 12-lead EKGs assists both paramedics and physicians in providing incident-specific treatments for acute cardiac events.
A representative from Zoll Medical Equipment provided equipment, information, and advice on Zoll defibrillators and patient pacing options, as well as a look at the new auto-pulse CPR option for delivering CPR to patients hands-free. Lunch was provided in Boyne’s conference center. Adam Peltier, one of Allied’s paramedics, summed up the training this way, “This completely changes my field practice. This stuff was great!”
Page has promised to come back in September 2007 for another round of 12-Lead training involving area emergency care providers.
